Course Description

An updated calendar to the AP chemistry course can be found at the following link:

If you'd like to look at the  curriculum framework from the college board, you can look at it here

Due to the math department restructuring their course offerings, the minimum math requirement will be changed.  Students will have to have passed Algebra II or Math 2,  and be concurrently enrolled in Math 3.  Students taking AP Chemistry will need to have have  solid background in physical science, if a grade of an A or B was not earned in physical science it is recommended that the student enrolls in general chemistry first.  Although not a pre-requisite, general chemistry is strongly recommended for all AP Chemistry students.

T
he syllabus for the AP Chemistry course has been approved by the College Board for use.  The following link will take you to a copy of it.  Many labs are listed, and about thirty of them will be completed throughout the year.  Depending on how quickly students understand subjects will enable us to do a few "bonus" labs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

AP Chemistry is designed to be a rigorous course.  Students will learn about chemical formulas, reactions, interactions of matter, law of conservation of matter, stoichiometry, states of matter, intermolecular forces, atomic structure, molecular structure, equilibrium, acids/bases, and electrochemistry.  Each chapter in the book should be read twice, once before classroom discussion, and once after to reinforce learning.  There will be a homework assignment each chapter consisting of 20 - 30 problems.  We will do 25 - 30 lab experiments during the year to reinforce each topic we discuss in class.  Lab reports are to be written for each experiment and are due seven days after the completion of the experiment.  Reading, Homework, and lab reports should be completed prior to the chapter test for best results.
